Why do you always wear a black t-shirt?
Office peers who get to know me, observe a seemingly strange behavior and ask this very question after a week or so:
Why do you always wear a black t-shirt?
What probably started as a self-experiment became routine for me. I started to wear the same outfit to work everyday. This has been happening since the past couple of months now (or maybe even close to a year, honestly can’t place a finger on the date). Completely sold to the notion, I’ve still yet to do the same outside of the workplace though.
Apparently this is something pretty common, at least according to a simple search. You can read more in any of the articles below for details but ill share a summary of the primary places of impact.
Benefits — TL;DR:
- You make more than ~30,000 decisions everyday. This allows you to focus on more important things.
- Save time, daily; no more internal debates with your conscience on the color/ pattern on your shirt.
- It becomes second-nature to work. You feel more productive, ‘in-the-zone’ whenever you’re in the outfit.
What do you need to kickstart this:
- Decide on clothes in which you feel really comfortable (you can casually wear in public without a single bit of doubt)
- Get multiple identical items of clothing
- Numb yourself to random comments for a week or two max
- Reap the rewards
Pro-tip 1: add a generic grey hoody to this ‘uniform’ for the colder days.
Pro-tip 2: chose a fabric which doesn’t require you to iron it. Hence the black round-neck and blue jeans work best for me.
I’m not the first or the last person doing it. Here’s some further reading which re-inforced what this is all about and helped me put a finger to what I wrote above.

Hope this read was a good quick intro, and would highly recommend you to try this out for at least week for yourself. Good luck!
